End of Summer Adventures - Part 4

Continuing with my series on our End of Summer Adventures (yes, I know it's December), I wanted to take you with us on our day trip to Harpers Ferry, West Virginia.

We could not have asked for a more perfect summer day.  Ok, maybe we could have asked for some slightly cooler temperatures, but by the end of our trip, we found a way to cope with the scorching humidity.  More on that later.

If you've never been to Harpers Ferry, I strongly encourage you to get off your duff and make the trip.  It's really beautiful and steeped in history.  I was perhaps the only person who was terribly interested in the history, but at least we managed to spark someone's interest in earning Junior Ranger badges.

Even if you're not interested in history, Harper's Ferry is a great place if you like to go kayaking...

...search for shells...

...enjoy small town shopping...

...hiking...

...climbing on rocks (though maybe that's just my husband and kids)...

...tubing on the river...

...or marveling at beautiful architecture.

When you've worn out your shoes and need a break, I recommend that you bypass the ridiculous line outside the ice cream shop that doesn't have any seats (and doesn't seem to mind if their customers are blocking vehicle traffic) and head over to Scoops Ice Cream Cafe for something incredibly delicious.

There is a lot to choose from...

...though I personally recommend the Citrus Freeze.  It's absolutely perfect on a really hot day.  Trust me, pictures don't lie.

If you're not one for orange sherbet and ginger ale goodness, my kids recommend the Oreo milkshakes.

On your way out of town, make sure you turn around one more time to appreciate the beauty of the church on the hill.

If you're lucky, someone else will be driving, which will free you up for a short nap on the way home. :)

More posts on adventures to come, including visits to Ottawa, Gettysburg and Shenandoah National Park!
